Do you know how Glutathione and your immune system work together? Many people are still unaware of Glutathione and the significant role it plays in the human body. This small molecule, found in all cells of the human body, is said to be the most important molecule with the most critical role to play in our overall health and well-being.

Where does this substance come from? It is produced naturally by the human body on a regular basis. It is also found in foods like fresh fruits and vegetables as well as fish and meat. Why is it important to know about it? It is essential to the body for optimal immune system functioning. Without this substance our immune systems would not be able to fight infection. Research studies have concluded that it is one of the most important antioxidants in the human body. It is the reason our immune cells can be regulated and regenerated. Other important antioxidants, vitamin E and vitamin C, cannot work if this substance is not present. Insufficient levels has been linked to premature aging, immune dysfunction and cardiac disease.

Our ability to generate this substance decreases as we get older. Other than aging, conditions like poor diet, pollution, stress and infection all decrease the amount of it in the system. Serious conditions like HIV, liver disease, cancer and diabetes have all been associated with a deficiency of this substance. Smoking is also a cause of reduced levels. There is a significant correlation between the levels of this substance and our ability to recover from illness.

A diet that supports increased production is important for optimizing levels of this substance. Good dietary sources include fruits, vegetables and fish. Foods that are rich in sulfur are also a good source. Garlic, onions and vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are all rich in sulfur. In addition, walnuts, avocado and tomatoes are other good choices for enhancing GSH levels. Regular exercise is also important.

Milk thistle is well known for the treatment of liver disease but milk thistle can also be used to increase your levels. Other supplements used to restore your levels of this substance are whey protein and alpha-lipoic acid.

Studies have shown that there are significant benefits to increasing levels of this substance in cancer patients. Those cancer patients that received intravenous injections responded more positively to chemotherapy and had an improved survival rate.

There is no disputing the fact that Glutathione and your immune system work together for overall well-being and better health. The body is able to repair itself and fight infection, stress and aging only if sufficient Glutathione exists.
